It has been a busy summer for Bayern Munich as they have been trying to strengthen the squad after a disappointing season in the cup competitions last year. The Bavarian club has also been actively looking to raise funds by listening to offers for fringe players. The most recent first-team player to secure a move away from Die Roten is Omar Richards.

Richards completed a move to Nottingham Forest this weekend. Bayern is set to receive a fee closer to €10 million for the English full-back. Die Roten has also included a 15% sell-on clause in this deal. Richards was unveiled by Forest early on Sunday.

Bayern has made a significant profit on Richards since he arrived at the club in 2021 on a free transfer from Reading FC. He showed glimpses of his talent during last season but couldn’t get adequate playing time under Julian Nagelsmann. The 24-year-old full-back will be getting a sufficient amount of playing time in the Premier League next season with Forest.

Richards managed to get just over 400 minutes of playing time under his belt at Die Roten during last season. He was mainly brought in to provide cover to Alphonso Davies after delivering impressive performances for Reading in the Championship.

In an ideal scenario, Omar Richards should have got more game time last season since Davies was out of action for more than two months at the start of 2022. Nagelsmann preferred to stick with other options in the left-back position instead of giving Richards an extended run in the starting XI.

A move to Nottingham Forest serves well for all parties. Richards had reported to Sabner Strasse for pre-season training, but negotiations between Die Roten and Forest picked up the pace midway through the week. After winning the Bundesliga with Bayern, Richards will be looking to take the next step in his development at Forest.

In terms of a replacement for Omar Richards, it remains to be seen if Die Roten will explore the market for a left-back. Lucas Hernandez can provide cover in the left-back position whenever needed. The Bavarian club can sign a left-back next summer as other areas need more attention right now.
