The coming weeks could see changes in the defensive department of Bayern Munich. The Bavarian club has already seen a big departure take place this summer as Niklas Sule joined Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer. Apart from Sule, a couple of defenders could leave before the end of the window.

Omar Richards is one of the defenders that could be leaving Bavaria this summer. Sky Sports in Germany is reporting that Nottingham Forest is interested in signing Omar Richards. The young left-back is yet to decide on his future at Die Roten after arriving at the club from Reading on a free transfer last summer.

The interest of Nottingham in Richards has also been documented by Daily Telegraph, The Athletic, and Daily Mail in England. These reports even suggest that Bayern and Nottingham Forest are already holding talks regarding a transfer. Forest has been aggressively strengthening after getting promoted to the Premier League. Daily Telegraph reports that Lyon could also be in the mix for Richards.

The English full-back has also been subject to interest from Belgium. According to Het Nieuwsblad (via TZ), Royal Antwerp is interested in signing Richards. However, the Belgian club may struggle to meet the transfer demands of Die Roten. The German Champions are looking for a fee worth €12 million for the English defender.

Omar Richards arrived at Bayern as cover for Alphonso Davies. However, he struggled to get adequate playing time in his debut season. Davies was out of action for more than two months at the start of 2022, which should have ideally allowed Richards to play regularly. However, Julian Nagelsmann opted for other options in the left-back positions.

Richards managed to get only six starts for Rekordmeister last season. Die Roten will make a good profit for Richards if Nottingham Forest agrees to meet their transfer demands. It remains to be seen if the 24-year-old full-back is willing to leave Bavaria after one season.

In terms of replacement, Bayern may not sign a direct replacement for Davies. With Matthijs De Ligt emerging as the top target for central defense, Die Roten may consider Lucas Hernandez as a cover for Davies instead of signing a new left-back.

Omar Richards reported at Sabner Strasse for pre-season training this week. As things stand, the young left-back is likely to go on tour with Die Roten later this month. A move to Forest will assure him guaranteed playing time, but he may not be eager to give up on his career at Bayern so quickly. The next few weeks could be interesting for the player since there does look like a willingness from Die Roten to part ways with him for the right offer.
