Bayern Munich agree terms with Konrad Laimer
The midfield department at Bayern Munich has been strengthened this summer by the signing of Ryan Gravenberch from Ajax. The Bavarian club also parted ways with Corentin Tolisso and Marc Roca. The French midfielder left Bavaria on a free transfer to join Lyon, while Roca sealed a permanent move to Leeds United.
After signing Gravenberch, Die Roten remains in the market to sign another midfielder. RB Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer is the priority target for the German Champions. Rekordmeister has already made the first bid for the midfielder. However, Leipzig is reluctant to complete a deal with Laimer and prefers him to move abroad.
It does look like Laimer is not interested in joining any other club apart from Bayern. According to SportBild’s Christian Falk, Die Roten has already reached an agreement over personal terms with Laimer. The Austrian midfielder could either join this summer or move to Bavaria in 2023 on a free transfer.
Laimer is due to join the pre-season training at Leipzig in the coming days. A move is not looking imminent, but Die Roten will be hoping to seal it in the final days of the window. Leipzig risks losing him for nothing if they continue to reject a move to Bavaria. Laimer can sign a pre-contract agreement with Bayern in January to join as a free agent at the end of next season.
Bayern has faced problems in the number six position whenever Kimmich was on the sidelines. Roca filled in adequately last winter, but Nagelsmann didn’t trust him a lot when Kimmich returned to full fitness. In Laimer, Nagelsmann will have a very solid option for the number six. The German coach will be hoping that Die Roten manages to sign him in the current window since next season has a jampacked schedule due to World Cup in November.
Die Roten will adopt a patient approach in signing Laimer. They were successful last summer in signing Marcel Sabitzer from RB Leipzig in similar contractual circumstances. Sabitzer had also entered the last year of his contract. It will not be a big surprise if Laimer starts the season with Leipzig but moves to Bavaria before the deadline day.

Apart from Laimer, Rekordmeister is currently working on a deal to sign Matthijs De Ligt from Juventus. The Dutch defender is reportedly keen on moving to Bavaria. Die Roten faces competition from Chelsea for De Ligt. The German Champions will face complex negotiations for this deal since Juventus is looking for a fee close to €60-70 million.
Bayern is also looking to sign Mathys Tel from Rennes. The French club has rejected Die Roten’s first bid worth €7 million. They are reportedly looking for a fee in excess of €10 million. The German Champions are likely to come back with a second bid for the teenage forward.
