The transfer rumour mill for departures at Bayern Munich has been largely dominated by Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker is keen on leaving Bavaria to join FC Barcelona this summer. Along with Lewandowski, the future of Serge Gnabry is also in the air as he enters the final 12 months of his contract.
Bayern is yet to reach an agreement with Gnabry for a new contract. The German winger reportedly rejected Die Roten’s improved offer as he is deliberating over deciding his future. However, the latest update from Germany is promising in terms of getting a decision from Gnabry in the near future.
According to SportBild’s Tobi Altschaffl, Gnabry will make a decision regarding his future when he returns from vacation and reports for pre-season at Sabner Strasse at the start of July. The German winger is not fazed by the arrival of Sadio Mane from Liverpool as he also has hopes of getting chances in the number nine role next season. Gnabry is currently not speaking to other clubs, which suggests that his priority for next season is to stay in Bavaria.
Die Roten will be hoping that Gnabry signs a contract extension. The German club is in no mood to allow the winger to run down his deal and leave next summer. If Gnabry decides to stay in Bavaria this summer, he may have to sign the new contract. Several media outlets in Germany have reported that Bayern has replacements lined up for Gnabry.
Serge Gnabry has been an instrumental player for Die Roten since returning from a productive loan spell at Hoffenheim in 2018. His incredible debut season with Bayern earned him a new deal. The German international contributed to 20 goals across all competitions during Rekordmeister’s treble-winning campaign in 2019/20.
The departure of Gnabry will be a big loss for Die Roten. The Bavarian faithful will be hoping that Gnabry decides to commit the peak of his career to the record German champions. If he fails to do in the coming weeks, then a departure could take place before the start of the season.
Real Madrid and Arsenal have been linked with Gnabry since the end of the season. The Spanish club was reportedly keen on signing Gnabry on a free transfer, but they may be open to signing him this year after missing out on Kylian Mbappe. Meanwhile, Arsenal is reportedly working on a deal for Leeds United’s Raphinha, so a return to North London is looking unlikely. The Bavarian faithful will be hoping that the club manages to convince Gnabry and make an offer that will satisfy all parties.

Meanwhile, Sadio Mane completed his medical on Tuesday in Munich. The Senegalese winger will be presented at Allianz Arena on Wednesday after ironing out the last formalities of the transfer. Bayern fans will be hoping that Gnabry will be lining up with Mane on matchday one against Eintracht Frankfurt in August.
