The biggest transfer saga of the summer will involve Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker has made several public statements to force a move away from Bavaria. Meanwhile, the officials at Die Roten have consistently insisted that Lewandowski will have to honour his contract.

Despite the denial from Bayern, Barcelona is eager to test the German club’s resolve by submitting an improved bid. According to Bild, the Spanish club is set to make a second bid for Barcelona this week in the region of €50 million. It remains to be seen if Die Roten will be satisfied with this bid.

Italian transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed that Barcelona is preparing a second bid for the Polish striker. Barcelona president Joan Laporta is hoping to use his good relationship with Pini Zahavi (Lewandowski’s agent) to pull off this transfer.

Previously, Barcelona had made a first bid worth €32 million for Robert Lewandowski. The German champions reportedly ignored the bid and kept on insisting that he would be playing in the Bavarian colours next season.

Lewandowski responded fiercely to Die Roten’s public comments about keeping him. He is eager to seal a move to Spain and considers his time with Die Roten to end with last season’s Bundesliga title victory. Bayern president Oliver Kahn was not pleased with Lewandowski’s consistent public statements to force a transfer. Chelsea and PSG are also interested in Lewandowski, but Barcelona remains the favourite to sign him.

Despite Die Roten’s public stance about Lewandowski, it does look like the German club is preparing for the departure of Robert Lewandowski. The German Champions have reportedly reached an agreement with Liverpool for Sadio Mane, while there have been talks with Austrian and VfB Stuttgart striker Sasa Kalajdzic.

The Senegalese forward has been one of the best wide players in Europe over the last few seasons, but he has lately started operating as a number nine for the Merseyside club. Meanwhile, Kalajdzic is a traditional number nine that impressed while playing for Stuttgart last season.

Mane has already agreed personal terms with Bayern, so it is a matter of when rather than if for this deal to go through. Kalajdzic and Mane could eventually replace Lewandowski. It remains to be seen what transfer fee Bayern is looking for Lewandowski. A bid worth €50 million will certainly test their resolve since the Polish striker has only one year left on his contract.
