The second big departure at Bayern Munich was confirmed on Monday as Corentin Tolisso announced his decision to leave the club. The French midfielder will be leaving as a free agent when his contract expires at the end of June. It was a correct decision from a sporting point of view for both parties.

However, Bayern did try to keep Tolisso at the club. According to Bild, the Bavarian club offered a performance-related contract to Tolisso if he couldn’t find a new club. However, the French midfielder was looking for a salary in the region of €11 million. The German Champions eventually decided to let Tolisso leave as a free agent.

From the perspective of Corentin Tolisso, it made sense to get a good contract. He is entering the peak years of his career, so the Frenchman will look to get the best possible deal. Considering the injury problems of Tolisso in the past few years, Bayern was also right to offer only a performance-related contract.

The French midfielder has endured a difficult last four years in Bavaria after a promising debut campaign. Tolisso has won every possible trophy at Die Roten, but he has struggled to enjoy a long run of games due to his poor injury record. He has been very unfortunate with various muscle injuries since suffering an ACL injury in 2018.

Tolisso will be hoping to kickstart his career with a move away from Bavaria. He still has time on his side as he turns 28 next season. The French international will be looking to play regularly at his next club and try to break into the France squad for the World Cup later this year.

Corentin Tolisso will not be short of offers in the current transfer window. Several clubs are still feeling the heat from the pandemic, so a free agent like Tolisso will certainly be in demand. He just needs to make the right decision to bring his career back on track.

Tottenham Hotspur, Inter Milan, and Juventus have been linked with a move for Tolisso earlier this season. Real Madrid was also linked with Tolisso, but they are reportedly focussing on signing Aurelien Tchouameni from Monaco to bolster the midfield. Even a move to the Europa club could be a good transfer for Tolisso as long as he is getting consistent playing time.

Meanwhile, Bayern has sealed the deal for the replacement of Corentin Tolisso. Ajax midfielder Ryan Gravenberch reportedly completed his medicals on Tuesday to complete a move to Bavaria. The German champions are also working on a deal to sign Konrad Laimer from RB Leipzig to further strengthen the midfield department.
