Bayern Munich is working on several contract renewals before the summer transfer window begins in June. The Bavarian club is close to extending deals of three senior players while they remain in talks with Serge Gnabry and Robert Lewandowski.
The current update from Germany on Gnabry’s contract talks is slightly worrying. According to Bild, Bayern has increased their contract offer for Serge Gnbary. The German winger will be earning between €17-19 million/year if he signs the new deal. Die Roten has no plans to further improve terms, so this is likely to be a take-it-or-leave-it offer for the German international.
As per this report from Bild, Gnabry is still unsure about signing a new deal at Bayern. The German winger is disappointed that he is not appreciated as other players in his age group at the club. He is in no rush to sign a new deal and doesn’t rule out leaving on a free transfer in 2023.
Die Roten is unlikely to allow Gnabry to run down his deal. The Bavarian club cannot afford to lose a player entering his prime to walk away for nothing. They will miss out on the transfer fee for Niklas Sule and Corentin Tolisso in the upcoming transfer window. Bayern cannot allow a similar outcome next year with Gnabry.
The contract negotiations with Serge Gnabry were expected to be straightforward. The German winger has been a vital player in the first team during the last three seasons. He has not shown any signs of discontent, so it was expected to be a smooth process.
Die Roten couldn’t find a breakthrough in talks with the German international in Hinrunde. The talks dragged on throughout the second half of the season, which has led to a point where Gnabry’s departure cannot be ruled out.
Over the last couple of months, various reports in Germany have confirmed Bayern’s contingency plans to replace Gnabry if a contract extension is not agreed. Ajax’s Antony and RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku are the likely targets for the Bavarian club if Gnabry fails to sign the new deal.

Meanwhile, Gnabry has been linked with Real Madrid. The Spanish club is also thinking about a free transfer instead of making a move in the upcoming transfer window. With the season coming to an end in the next couple of weeks, there are likely to be more updates on this contract saga at Die Roten. Gnabry has given many incredible memories to the Bavarian faithful in the past few years, so they will be hoping that he eventually signs the dotted line.
