Bayern Munich: Julian Nagelsmann confident about renewal for Serge Gnabry
The last few months have been difficult for Serge Gnabry on and off the pitch. The German winger has seen a lot of speculation surrounding his future at Bayern Munich. The lack of clarity about his contract renewal has reportedly affected his form on the pitch. Gnabry has struggled for consistency during Ruckrunde.
The German international started on the bench against Freiburg on Saturday as Julian Nagelsmann preferred Kingsley Coman and Leroy Sane in the wide areas. Instead of sulking due to the coach’s decision, Gnabry responded in the best possible way against Freiburg.
Gnabry came off the bench on Saturday and restored Die Roten’s lead against Freiburg. The Bavarian club eventually went on to score four goals, but Gnabry’s goal led to a shift in momentum. The German winger also provided the assist for the fourth goal.
Before Gnabry’s remarkable performance against Freiburg, Nagelsmann spoke candidly about the contract situation of the winger. While talking to the reporters (via GGFN), Nagelsmann expressed confidence about Gnabry staying in Bavaria beyond the current campaign. He also insisted that Gnabry has all the ideal conditions at Bayern to enjoy success.
"“I’m very confident that he’ll stay. I think from a football point of view he has everything that he needs. He has a coach that likes him as a person and as a player and he has teammates whom he gets along with very well privately.“He feels very comfortable here, it’s a matter of talks between the club and the manager but I do believe that we’ll find a solution.”"
Serge Gnabry has been in discussion with Die Roten for a new deal since Hinrunde. The German winger is reportedly looking to get parity on wages with the likes of Leroy Sane and Kingsley Coman. His current deal is set to expire at the end of the 2022/23 campaign, so Die Roten needs to resolve this situation sooner rather than later.
Bayern will reportedly look to listen to offers for Gnabry if an agreement over a new contract is not reached before the end of the season. The German club has already been strongly linked with a couple of wingers that can replace Gnabry.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid is following the situation of Serge Gnabry. Former Bayern defender David Alaba reportedly wants to be reunited with Gnabry in the Spanish capital. According to Goal, Liverpool and Juventus are also interested in the German winger. Despite consistent speculation, the German reports have suggested that Gnabry’s first preference is to stay at Bayern.

Nagelsmann will be hoping that Gnabry uses the performance against Freiburg as a springboard for a strong end to the season. Having more forward in good form for the business end of the season will increase Bayern’s chances of winning the Bundesliga and Champions League titles.
