After the contract renewal of Kingsley Coman in January, Bayern Munich would have ideally shelved the plans to sign a wide player. The talks had previously stalled with the French winger, and he looked destined to leave in summer. However, Coman did a u-turn and signed a long-term deal in January.

The Bavarian club has found themselves in a tricky situation where they may have to sign a wide player despite Coman signing a new deal. The contract negotiations with Serge Gnabry have dragged on for some time now, with no agreement around the corner. Die Roten has reportedly started exploring replacements for Gnabry if he doesn’t sign a new deal.

RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku has emerged as one of the targets for the Bavarian club. According to Sport1 and Bild, Bayern is interested in Nkunku. However, a move for the French forward will depend on the outcome of contract talks with Gnabry. Nkunku is admired by Julian Nagelsmann as they worked together at Leipzig.

Sport1 also confirms that there is still no breakthrough in contract talks with Gnabry. The German forward will not bog down in his wage demands as he is reportedly eyeing parity with the likes of Kingsley Coman and Leroy Sane.

Nkunku is set to be the most coveted forward in the summer transfer window. The French forward has been in sensational form for Leipzig this season. He has taken his game to the next level by increasing productivity in the final third.

The former PSG forward has managed to score 26 goals this season for Leipzig. He has also managed to get ten assists across all competitions. Nkunku’s impressive performances at the club level have helped him to get the first cap for France in the ongoing international break. The 24-year-old has largely operated as a center-forward for Leipzig this season, but he can also play on either flank or as a second striker.

Die Roten can sign Nkunku only if they part ways with Serge Gnabry for a big transfer fee. The French forward’s contract at Leipzig ends in 2024, so he will be an expensive buy in the upcoming transfer window.

The next couple of months will be decisive in deciding Gnabry’s future in Bavaria. If the contract agreement is not sealed by the end of the season, then Die Roten will be ready to listen to offers for him and start pursuing players to replace him.
