The contract renewals of first-team players have been on the agenda of the hierarchy at Bayern Munich in the past eight months. Barring Niklas Sule, they have managed to achieve success in all contract talks, while talks with a few players are still ongoing. Serge Gnabry is one of the players that remain in dialogue with the club regarding an extension.
The contract talks with Gnabry initially seemed to be straightforward. The German winger has been an important player for the first team in the last three seasons. Gnabry has also never expressed the desire to move away from the club and looked content in Bavaria. All these conditions pointed towards a swift conclusion of negotiations.
However, things have not panned out between Gnabry and Die Roten as expected. The talks have been dragging since Hinrunde, with no breakthrough around the corner. No agreement for a contract renewal has led to speculation about the future of Gnabry in Bavaria.
According to Kicker (via iMiaSanMia), the lack of outcome from contract talks has affected Gnabry on and off the pitch. The German winger has not been consistent in the past couple of months, with goals drying out for him across all competitions. He has managed to score twice in the last ten appearances for Rekordmeister.
Kicker has also reported that Gnabry’s preference is to stay at Bayern, but an agreement is not in sight. The next couple of months will be decisive in the talks with the German winger since his current deal ends in 2023.
It has been previously reported that wage demands are currently the stumbling block in the talks between Serge Gnabry and Die Roten. The Bavarian recently offered a bumper deal to Kingsley Coman, which brought him on parity with Leroy Sane. Gnabry is also reportedly looking to be in the same bracket as the other two wide players.

Moreover, Bayern is reportedly keeping a contingency plan ready in case Gnabry doesn’t sign a new deal. The German club has identified Ajax’s Antony as the possible replacement for the Gnabry. It does look certain that Die Roten will listen to offers for Gnabry in the summer if there is no agreement.
Real Madrid has been recently linked with Serge Gnabry. He will not be short of offers if he leaves Bavaria in the summer due to his performances in the last three seasons. However, the German forward will be looking to extend his stay in Bavaria. Hopefully, there is a positive conclusion to the long-drawn negotiations between Gnabry and Die Roten.
