Bayern Munich remains unsure about signing Matthias Ginter
The upcoming summer transfer window is likely to witness the arrival of another center-back at Bayern Munich. Things have slowed down a bit in the pursuit of a center-back as Die Roten is set to lose out on top target Andreas Christensen. The Danish defender has reportedly decided to join Barcelona instead of moving to Bavaria.
The defending Bundesliga champions have been linked with other center-backs after missing out on Christensen. Borussia Monchengladbach’s Matthias Ginter featured in the club’s list of targets for this position, but a move remains a distant idea.
According to Gazetta Dello Sport, Bayern’s interest in Ginter has stalled. The Italian media outlet believes that a move looked certain a few weeks ago, but Die Roten is not entirely convinced by the German defender. The Bavarian club’s reluctance could allow Inter Milan to sign Ginter.
The report from Italy entirely tallies with what has been lately reported in Germany regarding Die Roten’s interest in Ginter. The German international will be a financially feasible signing, but the Bavarian club is not entirely convinced by the player. As things stand, it will take a remarkable turn of events to see Ginter playing in a Bavarian shirt next season.
Meanwhile, Bayern has also ruled out signing Antonio Rudiger from Chelsea. The German international will also become a free agent in the summer. According to SportBild’s Christian Falk, the Bavarian club is not pursuing Rudiger due to his wage demands.
Die Roten has reportedly held preliminary talks to sign Torino’s Gleison Bremer. However, Inter Milan is leading the race to sign the Brazilian defender. Moreover, it remains to be seen whether Rekordmeister wants to pay a transfer fee to sign a central defender in the upcoming summer transfer window.
As things stand, Bayern is running out of options for the center-back position that will be available for a nominal fee. They have been investing heavily in this position for the past three transfer windows, so spending fortune for another center-back looks unlikely. They would have been open to spending money on a center-back if they were not losing Niklas Sule to Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer.

The defending Bundesliga champions can also replace Sule by using Benjamin Pavard in the heart of the defense. The French defender prefers playing as a center-back, so getting a quality right-back can help Die Roten to delay the signing of a central defender by a year. Die Roten is actively exploring various right-back options, so using Pavard as a central defender can surely become a viable solution.
