Bayern Munich interested in young Barcelona midfielder
The upcoming summer transfer window will see Bayern Munich bolstering the midfield department. The Bavarian club is likely to part ways with at least one senior midfielder, which will open up a space for the new addition.
The latest murmur in Spain suggests that Die Roten could shop in Spain to address the midfield department. According to Mundo Deportivo, Bayern is closely following the contract developments of Gavi at Barcelona. The teenage midfield sensation’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the 2022/23 season. Along with Bayern, several top clubs are keenly following Gavi’s situation. Barcelona remains eager to extend his contract.
Gavi has been enjoying a standout campaign for Barcelona. The Spanish midfielder has firmly established himself as a first-team regular by delivering consistent performances in the center of the park. He has managed to score two goals and create four goals in 31 appearances across all competitions.
The 17-year-old midfielder has been rewarded for his consistency at the top level with his first international cap for the Spanish senior team. Gavi is expected to become a key player for Spain in the short and long term.
Central midfield is the best position for Gavi, but he can operate as an attacking midfielder or a wide midfielder. His ability to thread dangerous passes in the final third suggests that he will mostly play as a number ten or an attacking midfielder in the future.
Gavi will be a top-quality addition to the current Bayern squad. However, they need to solidify the number six position instead of adding another creative central midfielder. From a financial perspective, it is not a feasible deal for Die Roten. Despite a year left on his deal, Barcelona will ask for a significant fee.
Moreover, Barcelona is unlikely to do a deal with Bayern in the summer. The Catalan club is reportedly annoyed by the efforts of Rekordmeister to sign Sergino Dest in the last couple of windows. The Bavarian club also tried to sign highly-rated Pedri from Barcelona in the recent past. Both players are still playing for Barcelona. It will take an incredible offer from Die Roten to sign Gavi from Barcelona.

Corentin Tolisso is expected to leave Bavaria in the summer. The German club has confirmed talks for a new deal, but there has been no significant development on that front right now. Marc Roca is also likely to leave Die Roten to get consistent playing time. In such a scenario, getting a quality defensive midfielder will be a much more impactful signing than getting a creative midfielder like Gavi.
