The upcoming summer transfer window is set to be crucial for the defensive department of Bayern Munich. The defending German Champions will be looking to add at least a couple of defenders in the squad.

Die Roten is looking to add more quality in the right-back position. The Bavarian club has been trying to improve this area of the squad during the last three summer transfer windows. In the search of finding the right solution for this position, Rekordmeister has approached one of the most exciting defenders in Europe.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Bayern has approached Mino Raiola to explore the signing of Noussair Mazraoui. The Moroccon right-back is running down his deal at Ajax to leave in the summer on a free transfer. He has been consistently linked with other top clubs in Europe.

Romano has also insisted that Barcelona is currently leading the race to sign Mazraoui. The Spanish club has already offered Mazraoui a contract worth €5 million/year. The 24-year-old right-back will soon make a decision about his next club.

Mazraoui has excelled in a possession-oriented system at Ajax. His quality on the ball makes him a very attractive defender. Moreover, he has also posted decent numbers in the final third for Ajax (five goals and two assists in 20 appearances). Mazraoui will be a big upgrade on the current right-back options in the senior squad at Bayern.

If the Moroccon chooses Barcelona as his next club, then Die Roten may get another chance to sign their other long-term target in this position. Barcelona is likely to sell Sergino Dest if they sign Mazraoui. Bayern has been trying to sign Dest for the past two summer transfer windows.

Apart from Mazraoui and Dest, Die Roten has been lately linked with a move for Middlesbrough’s Djed Spence. The young English right-back has been delivering impressive performances during his loan spell at Nottingham Forest. Middlesbrough may look to cash in when he comes back to the club in the summer. Apart from Rekordmeister, several top Premier League clubs are also showing interest in Spence.

Nevertheless, it is good to see that Bayern has multiple good options available to finally address the right-back position. Any one of the above three names will make the team better next season. A new right-back’s arrival will allow Benjamin Pavard to move in the central defense, while Bouna Sarr and Josip Stanisic will leave the club on a permanent and temporary basis, respectively. Apart from the right-back position, Rekordmeister will also like to add a central defender to the squad as a replacement for Niklas Sule.
