The upcoming summer transfer window is crucial for Bayern Munich as they need to address at least three positions in the current squad. Die Roten is likely to be in the market for young quality talent that can help them in achieving long and short-term goals.
Along with addressing these positions, Bayern will have to make sure that they identify financially feasible transfer targets. The Bavarian club is still reeling from the losses incurred due to the pandemic in the last two seasons.
In the last week or so, Middlesbrough’s Djed Spence has emerged as a transfer target for Die Roten. The young English right-back is currently attracting the attention of various top clubs. Spence is currently on a season-long loan at Nottingham. The summer transfer window will see him move to a club in the top five leagues across Europe.
The latest update from Germany suggests that Spence will be open to a move to Bayern. According to Sky Sports, Spence can see himself succeeding in Bavaria. The youngster wants to emulate success at the club as Alphonso Davies has done until now.
The report from Sky also confirms that Die Roten will be holding talks with representatives of Spence by the end of March. The German club will have to be decisive if they want to complete this transfer as the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are also interested in Spence. The sporting project in Bavaria is much more attractive than Spurs and Arsenal, but Spence will be able to stay in England.
Djed Spence will not have to worry about playing time in Bavaria. He may initially need an adaptation period, but he will get adequate game time. Bayern has been crying out for a proper right-back for some time. Benjamin Pavard has done a fine job in this position, but he prefers playing in central defense. The French international gives defensive solidity, but lacks the cutting edge while going ahead.

Meanwhile, Bouna Sarr is likely to make space for Spence in the first team squad at Die Roten. The Senegalese full-back has struggled for playing time under Julian Nagelsmann. He is expected to complete a permanent transfer away from Bavaria in the summer. Josip Stanisic is also likely to go out on loan in the summer if Spence arrives at the club.
Apart from signing a right-back, Die Roten will also strengthen central defense and midfield in the summer. A new center-back will effectively replace Niklas Sule in the squad, while Marc Roca and Corentin Tolisso will make space for a new midfield addition.
