The last eight months have been productive for Bayern Munich when it comes to contract renewals of key players in the first team. After losing David Alaba to Real Madrid on a free transfer, Die Roten has moved quickly to secure the futures of Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, and Kingsley Coman.
Serge Gnabry is also next in line for a new deal. The German winger has been negotiating with the club for quite some time, but a breakthrough is yet to be found. Gnabry reportedly wants parity in the salary package with other wide players in the squad.
Die Roten doesn’t need to panic just yet as Gnabry has a contract until 2023. Various top clubs are monitoring his situation in Bavaria, but Real Madrid is keeping a very close eye on the situation. According to Sport1, Real Madrid does have an interest in Gnabry, but a move in the upcoming window is out of question for them.
The Spanish club could try to complete a deal similar to David Alaba if Gnabry doesn’t reach an agreement with Die Roten for a new deal. Apart from getting desirable wages, Sport1 has reported that Gnabry is looking to get a proper understanding of his role under Julian Nagelsmann.
Serge Gnabry has been a terrific signing for Bayern. He played a crucial role during the treble-winning campaign, scoring 20 goals across all competitions. The German international did witness a dip in his performances during the 2020/21 campaign, but he has responded well this season.
Bayern will be hoping to reach an agreement with Gnabry before the end of the season. In the worst possible scenario, Die Roten will have to listen to offers for Gnabry during the next summer transfer window. The next few months are decisive regarding Gnabry’s long-term future in Bavaria.
It has been recently reported in the German press that Bayern could alter their transfer policy. The Bavarian club will be open to selling stars for a big fee and invest money in signing very young players. Julian Nagelsmann also refused to deny this report and insisted that there is nothing wrong with adopting this approach. Gnabry may well become the first player that could be sold under this policy if a contract renewal is not finalised before the end of the season.
Apart from Serge Gnabry, Thomas Muller, Robert Lewandowski, and Manuel Neuer are also in line for new contracts at Die Roten. The German club has already opened talks with Muller, while Neuer has made his intentions clear about retiring in Bavaria.
