The matchday 23 was productive for Bayern Munich as they got back to winning ways. The defending German champions came back from a goal behind to clinch a 4-1 win against Greuther Furth. Courtesy of this victory at Allianz Arena, Die Roten maintained a lead of six points at the top of the Bundesliga.
Along with the victory, there was a huge setback for Rekordmeister against Furth. Corentin Tolisso left the pitch in tears just before the 30-minute mark due to a muscle injury. The French midfielder is expected to be out of action for several weeks due to this injury, which will limit Julian Nagelsmann’s options in the midfield.
The most latest muscle injury is likely to diminish the chances of a new contract at Die Roten. The Bavarian club had confirmed that talks have started with Tolisso for a new deal as he entered the final five months of his current contract.
Corentin Tolisso was making a strong case for a new deal in the past few weeks by delivering strong performances in the center of the park. Nagelsmann had heaped praise on him for his contributions in central midfield, which did suggest that a new deal was just around the corner.
The first two months of 2022 have perfectly summed up Tolisso’s time in Bavaria since 2018. The French international has enjoyed good form in the bursts of a few months before suffering a serious injury. He has astonishingly missed 82 games since the start of the 2018/19 season.
There is no doubt about Tolisso’s quality on the pitch and the things he brings to the table. However, Die Roten needs a more reliable player in terms of availability to solidify the midfield department. Leon Goretzka is also struggling with injuries, so the last thing Die Roten wants is two injury-prone midfielders on big contracts.
From Tolisso’s point of view, it would be better for him to kick start his career away from Bavaria. A change of scenery could eventually help him to get back to his best. Moreover, Tolisso will have a plethora of good options in the summer. He will definitely get a move to a Champions League level club. Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, and Juventus have been linked with a summer move for Tolisso. It will be a win-win situation for all parties if Tolisso ends up leaving in June.
Corentin Tolisso is likely to miss the games for France in March. The French midfielder could be available for the final stretch of the season. He will be desperate to end his trophy-laden time in Bavaria on a high note instead of spending it on the treatment table.
