Bayern Munich has severed relations with Barcelona
Despite competing fiercely in the Champions League, Bayern Munich has been maintaining a good relationship with various top clubs in Europe. The German Champions are often considered as an ideal example for the astute financial and football management by various top clubs.
The frequent transfers between Juventus and Rekordmeister in the second half of the last decade highlighted a smooth relationship between the two clubs. Different loan deals with the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Inter Milan in the past few seasons also showed how well Rekordmeister works with different European clubs.
Barcelona and Bayern have also enjoyed a good relationship despite showing a great competitive edge against each other on the pitch. However, things seem to have spiralled between both European giants in the past couple of years.
According to Sport1, Barcelona has been irritated by Die Roten’s persistent efforts to sign players without their permission. The Bavarian club has consistently been in dialogue with the representatives of Sergino Dest, while Hasan Salihamidzic did everything possible to convince Pedri to not sign a new deal at Barcelona and move to Bavaria. It has been previously reported that Rekordmeister is also thinking about taking advantage of Barcelona’s financial turmoil.
As a consequence of Rekordmeister’s actions, Barcelona has been heavily linked with a move for Niklas Sule. Moreover, Sport1 has reported that the Catalan club is interested in signing Die Roten’s two promising young talents from youth teams – Kenan Yildiz (16) and Gabriel Vidovic (18).
Sport1 also hints that Barcelona’s move to join the European Super League also didn’t go down well with the hierarchy at Bayern. Even though the majority of the founders of the breakaway league have left, Barcelona is still supporting the idea of ESL.
It will be interesting to see whether things really change between both clubs when they try to sort big deals. Die Roten’s interest in Dest could check the resolve of Barcelona in the summer. The US international has been on the German club’s radar before his move to Spain. Since Joan Laporta and Barcelona have been irritated by Die Roten’s transfer attempts, the Spanish club may block their bid for Dest.
Along with tensions off the pitch, Rekordmeister has been annoying Barcelona in the Champions League during the last two years. The record Bundesliga champions inflicted the Spanish club’s biggest defeat in CL when Flick’s men hammered eight past them in a single leg quarter-final in 2020. Earlier this season, Die Roten clinched comfortable wins against Barcelona in group stages that lead to their early elimination from the competition.
