It was a successful week for Bayern Munich on and off the pitch. The defending Bundesliga Champions managed to clinch a comfortable 4-0 win against FC Koln on Saturday. Before the weekend’s game, Die Roten also managed to reach an agreement with Kingsley Coman for a contract renewal until 2027.

After clinching the signature of Coman, Rekordmeister should be looking to extend the contract of the most important forward in the current squad. Robert Lewandowski also has 18 months left on his contract, so talks over a new deal should be happening sooner rather than later.

However, the situation of Lewandowski is not straightforward. The German club is known for planning long-term when it comes to transfers and contract renewals. The availability of Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland in the upcoming summer transfer window adds more complexity to the situation of Lewandowski in Bavaria.

According to SportBild, Bayern has already contacted Mino Raiola to register their interest in Erling Haaland. The Norwegian striker can leave Dortmund in the summer if a club agrees to pay his reported release clause of €75 million.

Previously, Hasan Salihamidzic had publicly confirmed that Die Roten would be interested in the prolific Norwegian striker. However, former club officials Uli Hoeness and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge have admitted that Haaland is an unrealistic transfer for Rekordmeister due to the overall value of the financial package.

Raiola is set to pocket a big commission from Haaland’s next move as he does with all of his high-profile clients. Moreover, the young striker is also likely to command big wages that could shatter the salary structure at Die Roten. The financial outlay of this deal could prove to be detrimental for the Bavarian club if they decide to go all out for him.

The arrival of Haaland will directly have an impact on the future of Lewandowski. The two prolific goalscorers cannot play together as Die Roten doesn’t operate with two strikers. The Polish striker will leave Bavaria next summer if Haaland arrives from Borussia Dortmund during the same transfer window.

The signing of Haaland will allow Die Roten to sort the number nine position for many years. However, this transfer could have a rippling negative impact on their future transfer deals and contract renewals. There is no doubt about Haaland’s tremendous quality as a striker, but the financial outlay of his arrival makes it a very difficult transfer for them to complete in the summer. Nevertheless, the situation surrounding Haaland will be clear soon as he revealed last weekend that Dortmund wants him to make a decision about his future later this month.
