Robert Lewandowski breaking Gerd Muller’s record in the Bundesliga

It has been an incredible year for Robert Lewandowski, both on the individual and collective levels. The Polish striker continued to show that he is the best number nine in the world. With 69 goals across all competitions in 2021, Lewandowski managed to post his best goal tally in one calendar year.

However, the best moment of the year for Lewandowski and the Bavarian faithful should be the 22nd of May. On the stroke of the 90th minute against FC Augsburg, Lewandowski found the back of the net to bag his 41st league goal of the season. It was a historic goal as he broke Gerd Muller’s record for most goals in a single Bundesliga season.

The milestone was brilliant for Lewandowski, but the journey towards the milestone was even amazing. The Polish striker enjoyed incredible consistency throughout the year by scoring in almost every game.

Lewandowski’s chances of breaking the record were in jeopardy as he suffered an injury in March-April 2021. However, he came back strongly and scored goals in heaps to race towards the tally. The sheer perseverance of the Polish striker made sure that he broke this amazing record in the final minute of the season to make it one of the best moments of the year for the Bavarian faithful.
