The winter break gives an ideal time for clubs in Germany to start planning transfer strategies for mid-season and summer transfer windows. Along with transfers, this break also allows clubs to focus on contract renewals. Bayern Munich has also reportedly started working on the contract renewal of one of the key players in the squad.

According to Bild, Bayern has reopened contract negotiations with Kingsley Coman. The Bavarian club has been impressed by Coman’s performances and wants him to stay in Bavaria. This report also insists that Rekordmeister is ready to meet Coman’s wage demands, which are close to €20 million/year.

The talks with Kingsley Coman had reached an impasse during the summer of 2021. The Bavarian club was showing strong resolve in talks after Coman rejected initial offers. During the contract negotiations, Coman’s future was heavily speculated, and he was heavily linked with a move to England. Chelsea and Liverpool had reportedly explored deals to sign him last summer.

Coman ended up staying in summer since Die Roten reportedly wanted €100 million for him, which was too expensive for most clubs in Europe. The French winger also didn’t exactly agitate for a move but remained tight-lipped about his future.

The speculation surrounding his long-term future in Bavaria has not affected Coman’s performances on the pitch. The French international has been delivering good performances consistently for Die Roten this season. In 17 appearances across all competitions, Coman has five goals and two assists to his name.

Leroy Sane has been enjoying great form on the left flank, scoring and assisting every other game. Meanwhile, Coman has been providing the width on the other flank and creating chances for his teammates. He has a big role to play in the second half of the season.

Considering the amount of money Rekordmeister will have to spend to bring in a replacement for Kingsley Coman, it makes much more sense to renegotiate with the forward for a new deal. Moreover, Coman’s will soon enter the peak years of his career, which further adds more upside to a contract extension.

If the report from Bild is correct, then it also shows the Bavarian club’s faith in Coman’s talent. A contract renewal before the end of the season will be the ideal outcome for Rekordmeister. If the new deal is not sorted before summer, then Bayern may have to cash in and avoid losing him for nothing in 2023. The defending German Champions have been lately linked with Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele, but the club’s priority seems to have switched to Coman’s contract extension, even if it does put a little bit of strain on the club’s wage structure.
