Bayern Munich is expected to explore the transfer market next summer for a wide player. The current squad is blessed with three quality wingers, with Jamal Musiala becoming the possible fourth option. However, the future of Kingsley Coman in Bavaria is uncertain after unsuccessful contract talks between both parties last summer.

The defending Bundesliga Champions has remained firm on their wage structure, so Coman’s wage demands are likely to be unfulfilled. Moreover, Die Roten is reportedly not keen on losing Coman for nothing in 2023, so offers for him are likely to be heard next summer.

In such a scenario, Rekordmeister will have to look for a replacement for Coman. According to SportBild’s Christian Falk, the Bavarian club is considering Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele as an option for Coman.

Dembele is yet to agree to a contract renewal with Barcelona. As things stand, the 24-year-old winger can sign a pre-contract agreement with an interested club in January to eventually move on a free transfer in the summer.

The former Rennes winger has previously enjoyed success in the Bundesliga during his time at Borussia Dortmund. His eye-catching performances at Dortmund eventually earned him a big move to Barcelona, making him the most expensive player signed from Bundesliga.

However, things have not gone as per plan for Dembele in Barcelona. The French international has spent a lot of time on the sidelines due to consistent injury problems. Moreover, his form has also dipped whenever he has been fit. In the past four and half seasons, Dembele has almost missed 100 games for Barcelona. There is little doubt about his quality, but his injury record makes it a very risky deal for Bayern. (Stats courtesy: Transfermarkt)

From a financial point of view, Die Roten will have to pay big wages to Dembele since he was paid well at Barcelona. The French winger can also command a significant signing-on fee since he will be arriving on a free transfer. It will be a massive risk to invest heavily in a forward that has suffered so many injuries in the recent past.

Instead of contemplating a move for Dembele, Rekordmeister will be better served by negotiating a contract renewal with Coman. After struggling for fitness and consistency for a few years, Coman has become an important player for Bayern in the last two seasons. With peak years ahead of him, Coman is set to get better. The German Champions should try to do everything possible to extend his contract.
