Bayern Munich: Summer transfers will depend on contracts of two stars
The winter transfer window is set to be quiet for Bayern Munich, but the German club has started thinking about summer transfers. The Bavarian club has a few areas to address in the current squad, but overall transfer plans are set to depend on the future of a couple of star players.
According to SportBild, Die Roten’s transfer plans will hinge on the outcome of contract talks with Robert Lewandowski and Kingsley Coman. Both players have just over 18 months left on their current deal, so it is a decision time for all parties.
As per this report, Rekordmeister may weigh up a move for Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele if terms for contract extension are not agreed with Coman. On the other hand, Dortmund’s Erling Haaland is the primary candidate to replace Robert Lewandowski if a contract renewal is not agreed with the latter. The likes of Dusan Vlahovic and Federico Chiesa are other attacking options that have been identified by the club as potential successors to Lewandowski and Coman, respectively.
Earlier this week, Sky Sports in Germany reported that Die Roten is not considering a move for Haaland. However, SportBild believes that internally a move for Dortmund striker has not been completely ruled out. The Bavarian club is expected to start talks with Lewandowski for a new contract in 2022. The outcome of these talks will dictate the club’s plan regarding Haaland.
Meanwhile, the German club’s efforts to agree to a contract extension with Coman were futile last summer. The French winger’s wage demands are reportedly high, so it will take a sudden change of heart from Die Roten to sanction his wish and extend the contract.
The report from SportBild also insists that the club would listen to offers for Coman and Lewandowski if a contract extension is not agreed upon. Even though they will have one year left on their contracts, both players will fetch considerable transfer fees due to their quality and consistency in the last few seasons.
The ideal outcome for Rekordmeister will be contract extensions of both forwards with new deals fitting the framework of their wage structure. Both players have been phenomenal in the past three seasons, so keeping them should be a priority over bringing in new players.
Apart from possible replacements for forwards, Die Roten will also need a right-back and a couple of midfielders during the next summer transfer window. Since games are now again played behind closed doors, there will be further financial losses for Rekordmeister. It will be interesting to see how Hasan Salihamidzic and Bayern go about the transfer business in summer with so many constraints in the background.
