New signings often need time to get used to a new club and environment to deliver their best performances. Dayot Upamecano falls in the other category as he has hit the ground running at Bayern Munich since arriving from RB Leipzig in the summer transfer window.

Barring a couple of poor performances, Upamecano has been a fine addition to the current Die Roten squad. The French defender formed a good partnership with Niklas Sule in the heart of the defense. After Lucas Hernandez returned from an injury spell, Upamecano also formed a good center-back partnership with him.

Upamecano was able to enjoy a seamless integration at the Bavarian club since he was familiar with the Bundesliga. He has been one of the best young defenders in Germany during his stint at RB Leipzig. The French international is accustomed to the demands of the German league, which reduced his adaptation period.

Along with having experience in the Bundesliga, Upamecano has already worked with Julian Nagelsmann at Leipzig. While talking to Goal France, Upamecano revealed crucial attributes of the German coach that have helped him in improving as a central defender.

"“I have a very good relationship with Julian. I like coaches who tell me things as they are, and he does that.”“Julian is not afraid to tell you things. That’s what I like most about him. He also speaks regularly with the players. And as a defender, above all, it’s very good to have him because with him, we try to take risks and play forward.”"

Upamecano’s quality on the ball and his recovery pace allow Die Roten to play a little bit higher up the pitch. When on song, Upamecano comfortably dominates forwards with ease. However, he does have lapses in concentration that can turn into very dangerous mistakes for the team.

The French international is still very young for a central defender, so the rough edges of his game will be polished with time and good coaching. Nagelsmann has a good track record of getting the best out of young players, so Upamecano has all the right conditions in Bavaria to fulfill his potential.

The former RB Leipzig defender had a nightmare outing against Borussia Monchengladbach in the second round of DFB Pokal. The defeat at Borussia Park is a learning curve for Upamecano as the Bavarian faithful will be hoping for much better performances in the knockout rounds of the Champions League.

Upamecano has a chance to further cement his place in the French national team during the current international break. Even though the French team won the Nations League in October, Upamecano was not at his best. In the absence of Raphael Varane during the next two weeks, Upamecano has a chance to impress Didier Deschamps.
