The last few weeks have seen multiple reports across Europe suggesting that Bayern Munich could be in the market for a striker. The German Champions have publicly expressed interest in Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland. However, one more new striker’s name has been linked to Die Roten in the latest German reports.

According to Sky Sports News (via iMiaSanMia), Bayern is interested in Fiorentina’s prolific striker Dusan Vlahovic. The German champions will be facing competition from Borussia Dortmund for the forward as talks did take place with the Serbian forward last year.

Vlahovic is expected to attract the attention of numerous top clubs next summer since he will be entering the final year of his contract. Fiorentina has publicly admitted that the 21-year-old striker has already rejected an offer for a new contract.

The Serbian striker enjoyed a fruitful campaign with Fiorentina last year. He managed to score 21 goals in Serie A. On the back of such a successful season, Vlahovic was subject to interest from Tottenham Hotspurs and Atletico Madrid. Eventually, Vlahovic decided to stay in Fiorentina for one more season. Vlahovic has started the new campaign on a good note with four league goals in eight appearances. Fiorentina will be desperate for him to sign a new deal to give them leverage during talks with interested clubs. With only one year left on the contract, Vlahovic will command a significantly lesser fee than last summer.

Reports linking strikers to Bavaria have been accompanied by speculation surrounding the future of Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker has less than two years left on his contract, but the German club is yet to open talks over a new deal. Lewandowski is reportedly frustrated due to no talks regarding a contract renewal.

Bayern is totally justified to explore the market for strikers since they will need a long-term replacement for Lewandowski. However, the German champions should find a way where Lewandowski and young forward can coexist. Allowing Lewandowski to leave next summer will be a huge setback to the club’s short-term ambitions.

Next. Three things to watch against Benfica. dark

Vlahovic is a terrific young striker. His arrival will make sense for Die Roten if he is ready to take up the reduced role (rotate with Lewandowski) for at least one season. The Serbian can steadily get more minutes when Lewandowski goes well past the mid-30s. The German Champions will need to strike a balance if they plan to bring a new striker next summer.
