It has been a frustrating international break for Bayern Munich as multiple players have suffered knocks and injuries in the past seven days. The German Champions suffered another blow late on Sunday night as Canadian winger Alphonso Davies was substituted in the second half against the USA due to a potential injury.

Davies was enjoying a fine evening for Canada on the pitch before suffering an injury in the 72nd minute. The Canadian national team is yet to confirm the extent of the injury for Davies, but he is an early doubt for Canada’s game against El Salvador on Wednesday.

From Die Roten’s perspective, Davies’ injury will be a big blow since he had enjoyed a good start to the campaign. The young left-back had a frustrating summer as he couldn’t feature in Golds Cup due to injury. He had missed the entire pre-season for Die Roten but recovered in time for the first competitive game of the campaign.

In case Davies is sidelined for a longer period, Die Roten will have to utilize Lucas Hernandez and Omar Richards. Josip Stanisic is also an option for this position, but he is currently needed in the right-back position due to Benjamin Pavard’s injury.

More from Bayern Strikes

Hernandez can become an option for left-back after missing the first month of the season due to injury. The French defender is expected to play more regularly in the heart of the defense this year, but Davies’ injury might force Nagelsmann to deploy him in the left-back position. Moreover, Dayot Upamecano and Niklas Sule have formed a good center-back partnership in the first few games of the season.

The other option for Nagelsmann will be Richards. The young full-back arrived from Reading in the summer, but he is yet to start a Bundesliga game. Few reports in Germany suggested that Richards still needs time to get used to tactical set up in Bavaria, so he may have to wait for the first start in the Bundesliga.

Apart from Davies, Corentin Tolisso and Thomas Muller suffered injuries during the international break. Tolisso is expected to be out longer due to calf injury, while Muller was withdrawn from the German squad due to an adductor problem.

Die Roten will be hoping that no more injuries pile up before the final game of this break. Nagelsmann may have to rethink his starting lineup against his former team RB Leipzig on Saturday. The defending champions will be well tested against Leipzig after making a steady start to the campaign.
