Bayern Munich has been focusing on departures ever since making three signings earlier in the window. The German Champions have found it difficult to find appropriate offers for the fringe players in the depressed transfer market.
Bouna Sarr is one of the few players Die Roten is open to parting ways this summer. However, the player is in no rush to leave the club. According to Bild (via iMiaSanMia), Sarr is not eager to leave Rekordmeister for both financial and sporting reasons. The French full-back wants to enjoy more success at the club.
At the end of last week, one report in Germany confirmed that Sarr had rejected an offer from Italy. He is also subject to interest from France, but there have been concrete talks. With less than a week left for the window to close, Rekordmeister faces a race against time to find a solution for Sarr.
Bouna Sarr arrived at Bayern from Marseille during the final days of last summer’s transfer window. In what was tipped to be the dream move, Sarr endured a difficult debut campaign. His entire season was plagued with frustrating injuries, which gave him very few opportunities to show his quality on the pitch.

After a difficult debut season, there has been constant chatter in the German media that Bouna Sarr has no future at the club. However, the lack of offers and Sarr’s eagerness to stay has meant that there has been no breakthrough throughout the campaign.
Even if Sarr does end up staying in Bavaria, he faces a big challenge in getting adequate playing. When he arrived at the club, his role was predominantly to provide cover for Benjamin Pavard in the right-back position. The Frenchman currently finds himself third or even fourth choice in this position.
Julian Nagelsmann picked Josip Stanisic as right-back in DFL Supercup and first Bundesliga game of the season. In the game against FC Koln on Sunday, Niklas Sule started in the right-back position. Since Pavard is recovering from a serious injury, Nagelsmann is managing the right-back position between Sule and Stanisic. Sule getting minutes in this role is a damning indictment of Sarr’s position in the squad since the German defender is primarily a central defender.
Realistically, it will be difficult for Sarr to get adequate playing time this season. However, his eagerness to fight for a place in the starting XI bodes well for competitiveness in the squad. The German Champions might be in the market for a right-back next summer if Sarr leaves in 2021. As of now, Nagelsmann will have four options for this position.
