Bayern Munich: Contract renewals as key as new signings
It has been a quiet transfer window for Bayern Munich this summer. The German Champions completed signings of Dayot Upamecano and Omar Richards before the end of last season. The signing of Sven Ulreich was completed in July when Alexander Nubel went out on loan.
Since the start of July, there has been no business in terms of incomings. However, the club has still managed to complete important pieces of business in the past few weeks. Firstly, they have agreed to a new contract with Joshua Kimmich that will see the German international spend peak years of his career in Bavaria.
On Friday, the Bavarian faithful received another good news as Leon Goretzka has also reportedly reached an agreement with the club for the new contract. All media outlets in Germany confirmed that Goretzka is set to sign a contract until 2026.

After Euro 2020, there was a lot of speculation surrounding the future of Goretzka. Manchester United had reportedly touched base with his agents, but Die Roten was always cautiously confident about agreeing to a new contract. Goretzka is set to become a key part of Julian Nagelsmann’s plans at Die Roten.
Securing the future of Goretzka is a big bonus for Die Roten. He has formed a terrific midfield partnership with Kimmich. With both players entering the prime years of their careers, Rekordmeister will have a settled spine of the squad for the next few years. The presence of Kimmich and Goretzka in midfield gives them the platform to challenge on all fronts for multiple seasons.
Bayern manage to extend contracts without breaking wage structures
The two contract renewals will reward the consistency of Kimmich and Goretzka in the past few seasons. Both German midfielders will be paid handsomely, but it will be well within the limits of the club’s wage structure. Goretzka has reportedly agreed to wages between €12-15 million, which can be justified with the things he brings to the table for the team.
The Bavarian faithful are eager for new faces in the squad, but the contract extensions of these two midfielders are as important as new arrivals. The German Champions will now turn their attention to reach an agreement with Kingsley Coman. The French winger currently has two years left on his deal. Meanwhile, Die Roten also has to make a decision regarding Niklas Sule as he enters the final year of the contract.
