The Bundesliga season is just three days away as Bayern Munich kicks off title defense against Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday. It has the potential to become a historic season for the German club as they eye record tenth Bundesliga title in a row.
Over the years, Die Roten has successfully dominated the league in Germany while going deep in the Champions League. In 2013 and 2020, they managed to go all the way in three competitions to win the treble, making them the second European club to win two trebles.
The second treble featured the new-age stars of Die Roten. Alphonso Davies was one of the key players for Rekordmeister during the 2019/20 campaign. He successfully adapted to the left-back position under Hansi Flick to become one of the best full-backs in Europe.
In two and half years, Davies has managed to win every possible trophy at Die Roten. The young full-back is eager to maintain this consistency. While talking to CNN, Davies admitted that there is more to come from him and his team as they will be challenging on all fronts next season.
"“We know it’s not going to be easy. It’s going to be really difficult. But I feel like with the team, we can do it again.“My time is not done with Bayern. I still have a lot more years there and a lot more trophies to win, so I’m excited for the future.”"

The young left-back also heaped praise on Julian Nagelsmann during this interview. He is confident that Nagelsmann’s ideas will eventually help the team to flourish on the pitch. The young German coach took over the role of head coach in the summer after Hansi Flick left to become the coach of the national team. Die Roten paid a world record fee for a coach to sign Nagelsmann from RB Leipzig.
Davies will thrive after challenging 2020/21 campaign
Davies was tremendous during the treble-winning campaign. His form did dip last season, with a couple of injuries frustrating him in the first half of the season. Davies eventually picked up form in the second half of the season and showed consistency in his performances.
The young full-back will be looking to maintain similar consistency next season despite missing the entire pre-season due to an ankle injury. Davies was ruled out of Gold Cup in July after suffering this injury in training. He completed the recovery during the pre-season and returned to first-team training on Monday.
Alphonso Davies will have added competition in the left-back position. The German Champions clinched the signing of Omar Richards from Reading FC to add more depth to the left side of the defense. Moreover, Josip Stanisic could also be a potential left-back in the first-team squad. Nevertheless, Davies will be coming out all guns blazing this season after a fairly challenging second season.
