Bayern Munich Frauen win AMOS French Cup with victory over Roma
By Daniel Garza
Bayern Munich Frauen defeated Roma 4-0 on Friday night to win the AMOS French Cup. Four second-half goals propelled Bayern to victory as their preseason continues to go well. After defeating Lyon 4-2 in the first match of the competition, it was another strong performance from the Bas they held a clean sheet against a Roma side that scored two goals against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.
Viviane Asseyi opened the scoring in the 51st minute with a successful penalty kick conversion. Jovan Samnjanovic was the player who drew the spot-kick after she was tripped in the penalty area.
Klara Buhl would provide the two goals that allowed Die Roten to pull away from Roma. She scored her first goal in the 70th minute by making a nice run in the penalty area and dispatching her shot past the goalkeeper. Buhl’s goal in the 78th minute was arguably the top strike of the entire match as she blasted a shot from outside the penalty area that found its way into the corner of the net.
A fourth goal was added in the 82nd minute when Lea Schuller produced a fantastic chip to score her third goal of the competition. The goal allows Schuller to finish as Bayern’s top scorer of the tournament.

Buhl leads the way
The two goals Buhl scored in quick succession were a major difference in the match. Roma was only one goal down when the 20-year-old stepped up and scored a brace. Having scored eight goals last season, Buhl was one of the top offensive performers for Die Roten and it appears she could be in for an even higher tally of goals in the coming season.
At just 20, Buhl represents the growing number of talented young players on the team-sheet. It could be a huge season for the young forward.
Another preseason tournament awaits
This won’t be the last stop on Bayern’s preseason tour. They will head to the United States to play in The Women’s Cup which is set to begin on August 18th. The Bavarian club is scheduled to play Paris Saint-Germain and the winner of that match will head to the final where they will play either Racing Louisville or the Chicago Red Stars. This will certainly be another great test for Die Roten as they look ahead to defending their Frauen-Bundesliga title in the 2021/22 campaign.
