The final preparations for the start of the Bundesliga have started for Bayern Munich. The defending champions have endured a difficult pre-season until now, but things are likely to improve due to the return of senior players.

On Thursday, Rekordmeister also received significant news on the injury front. Alphonso Davies was spotted training with the ball at Sabner Strasse. The Canadian winger is likely to be ready to play against Borussia Monchengladbach next weekend.

Davies was ruled out from Gold Cup last month after suffering an injury in training with the national team. He returned immediately to Sabner Strasse to complete the recovery. Die Roten will be looking to slowly ease him into the first-team action.

Apart from Davies, Lucas Hernandez was also spotted training on the pitch this week. The Frenchman underwent knee surgery after Euro 2020. He didn’t play for France in the knockout game against Switzerland after limping at halftime against Portugal in the final group game.

More from Bayern Strikes

Hernandez is set to have a significant role to play this season for Die Roten. The departure of David Alaba at the end of the last campaign will allow Hernandez to slot in the left side of the central defense. The Frenchman will be looking to make up for the lost time after enduring frustrating first two seasons in Bavaria. Hernandez might miss the first game, but the return to training suggests that he will soon make his return.

After suffering a minor injury during last week’s friendly game against Monchengladbach, Kingsley Coman has also resumed training. The French winger should be fit for the first Bundesliga game of the season. Despite the speculation surrounding his future, Coman will be a big player for Die Roten next season. He was one of the best wingers in the Bundesliga last campaign.

Marc Roca is the long-term absentee for Die Roten. The Spaniard didn’t feature in a single pre-season game after suffering a serious injury in the first week of training at Sabner Strasse in July. It is a big blow for the young midfielder as he had worked hard during the summer for a strong pre-season.

Meanwhile, Bayern will be playing the DFB Pokal game against SV Bremen on August 25. The game was supposed to occur this week, but COVID cases in the Bremen team forced DFB to reschedule. Julian Nagelsmann will be getting a chance to open his account in silverware later this month when Die Roten faces Borussia Dortmund in the DFL Supercup.
