Coming into the summer transfer window, the right-back has been a position to address for Bayern Munich. The recent German reports have hinted that midfield is more of a priority for the club, but the right side of the defense will need sorting later in the window. Earlier on Wednesday, a new right-back has emerged as a target for the German Champions.
According to Sky Italy’s Gianluca Di Marzio, Julian Nagelsmann has told Bayern chiefs to sign Danilo from Juventus to improve options in the right-back position. The Italian club wants a fee close to €30 million for the full-back, making it a difficult transfer to conclude for Die Roten.
Danilo was one of the most consistent players for Juventus last season. The Brazilian full-back can operate on both flanks, but he is at his best on the right side. The former Manchester City and Real Madrid full-back started in 32 league games in Serie A last season and chipped in with one goal and four assists.
Apart from the transfer fee, Danilo’s wages could be a possible hurdle, as per Di Marzio’s report. The German club has been looking to bring some order to the wage bill, so bringing a senior player with high wages is not exactly a wise decision.

There is no doubt about Danilo’s quality, but this transfer will not serve Die Roten in the long run. He is already 30, so a huge outlay in transfer fees and wages makes this transfer financially less viable for Die Roten.
Loan with an option to buy is the only way this move takes place this summer. Bayern and Juventus have done a lot of business in the last few years, with the most recent deal for Douglas Costa last summer. The good relationship between both clubs can make this transfer happen, but it will be still a huge surprise if Danilo plays in Bavarian colours next season.
As things stand, Benjamin Pavard is set to start the season for Die Roten in the right-back position. The French defender endured a difficult second campaign after a brilliant debut season. He still favours playing in the heart of the defense, so Pavard could end up playing in central defense in the long run.
Meanwhile, Bouna Sarr has struggled to provide strong enough competition for Pavard in the right-back position. The 29-year-old defender could end up leaving Bavaria this summer as the club is ready to listen to offers for him. A new right-back could arrive late in the window as the signing will rely on possible departures.
