Bayern Munich is set to begin pre-season training with available players from next season. Ahead of the start of training camp, Die Roten has sorted out the final details of the transfer of Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig.

According to Bild, Die Roten has reached an agreement with RB Leipzig to allow Upamecano to start training at Sabner Strasse from next week. It was previously reported in Germany that Upamecano could move to Bavaria after July 15 due to a clause in his contract at RB Leipzig. The report from Bild confirms that Bayern and RB Leipzig will share Upamecano’s salary for the first half of July.

Die Roten had managed to beat competition from various top clubs to reach an agreement with Upamecano earlier this year. After agreeing personal terms with the French defender, the German Champions had activated the release clause in his contract. With final details sorted by Rekordmeister, Upamecano can begin life in Bavaria from next week.

Dayot Upamecano is likely to go straight in the starting lineup next season at Die Roten. The departures of David Alaba and Jerome Boateng had opened up space for a new central defender. Upamecano will consistently partner Lucas Hernandez in the central defense from next season.

More from Bayern Strikes

Julian Nagelsmann is reportedly planning to play a three-man defense at Die Roten. In such a scenario, Upamecano might play in the center of back three. The French defender can seamlessly adapt to this system since he had worked with Nagelsmann at RB Leipzig for two years.

Rekordmeister is also making sure that Upamecano will get proper pre-season training. The Frenchman will be available for all pre-season games since he was not part of the senior team at Euro 2020. He did play for France in U-21 Euro after the end of the season. Die Roten has also rejected the request from the French Football Federation to release Upamecano for the Tokyo Olympics at the end of July.

With Hernandez, Niklas Sule, and Benjamin Pavard joining training late due to participation at Euro 2020, it is essential that Upamecano and Nianzou Kouassi are well prepared to play in the first game of the season. Hernandez may need more time as he underwent surgery to correct the knee injury that he suffered during the game against Portugal at the end of June.

Along with Dayot Upamecano, Sven Ulreich and Omar Richards will also join the first-team training next week. Ulriech returned to the club after Alexander Nubel went out on a two-year loan to Monaco. Meanwhile, Richards has joined the club from Reading FC on a free transfer.
