After Germany was knocked out of Euro 2020, Bayern Munich can now focus on the contract renewals of Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich. Goretzka’s contract needs addressing soon since he has only one year left on the current deal. The unique contract situation is attracting interest from other European clubs.

According to Sport1, Manchester United has contacted Goretzka’s representative to register interest in the German midfielder. The Red Devils will consider moving for Goretzka if Paul Pogba leaves in the summer. The French midfielder is also in a similar position at United with one year left on contract. Apart from Manchester United, other Premier League giants, Barcelona and Real Madrid, are also interested in Goretzka.

SportBild’s Christian Falk has also reported that Manchester United is interested in the German international. However, both reports do insist that Goretzka prefers staying at Die Roten even though a new contract has not been agreed.

Earlier this summer, it was widely reported that Goretzka had agreed to a new deal with Bayern. However, SportBild confirmed last week that contract negotiations with the German midfielder had been complicated due to the introduction of another agent in the mix.

More from Bayern Strikes

Goretzka has been one of the top performers for Die Roten in the last two years. Moreover, he is yet to enter the peak years of his career. At 26, Goretzka has become one of the most dynamic midfielders in Europe. His versatility makes him a perfect midfielder for any coach in the world.

The German international operated as a number ten during his debut season in Bavaria. However, he became more physically robust to play deeper for Die Roten in the last two seasons. After the departure of Thiago Alcantara last summer, Goretzka and Kimmich became the first choice midfield pairing for Hansi Flick.

Considering his age and the qualities he brings to the table, Rekordmeister cannot afford to lose Leon Goretzka this summer. They have six months to agree a contract extension with the former Schalke midfielder. Goretzka will be free to negotiate with other clubs when the winter transfer window opens in January.

Apart from sporting loss, Die Roten will also lose financially if Goretzka walks away on a free transfer. The German midfielder can command a considerable transfer fee if Bayern decides to cash in this summer. Even though other areas in the squad needs to be addressed in the next two months, the contract of Leon Goretzka can also be considered as a big signing in this window.
