After a disappointing night for the French contingent at Bayern Munich on Monday, the German players also face heartbreak in Euro 2020. Germany exited the tournament with a 2-0 defeat against England at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday.
Even though Germany started the game well, they failed to regain proper control once England settled into the game. Moreover, England looked more decisive in crucial moments, while Germany often looked devoid of ideas apart from wing-backs creating half chances for the team.
Joshua Kimmich, Manuel Neuer, Leon Goretzka, and Thomas Muller were three Bayern players that started the game against England. Neuer made a good early save to deny Raheem Sterling. He was hardly at fault for both goals as the defensive unit failed to contain England’s well-coordinated moves.
Goretzka started the game brilliantly for Germany. He was providing the tenacity in the midfield after replacing injured Ilkay Gundogan in the starting lineup. Goretzka won numerous duels and showed great ball-carrying ability to get the team higher up the pitch. His impact faded as the game went on, and England got a firm grip in the center of the park.

Joshua Kimmich summed up Germany in the game. He started brightly by delivering some dangerous crosses in the box. However, he was slowly nullified by Luke Shaw on the right flank and found it difficult to break down England’s stubborn defense.
Thomas Muller probably had the biggest nightmare on the pitch against England. The veteran forward had a golden chance of equalising immediately after England got the lead but scuffed the shot wide in one vs one situation with Jordan Pickford. He was kept quiet by England for long periods of the game.
Serge Gnabry was called upon by Joachim Low when Timo Werner was struggling to test England’s defense in the second half. Gnabry also barely affected the game as his teammates failed to create good chances for him.
Leroy Sane and Jamal Musiala came on late in the game when England had effectively sealed the victory. Moreover, Sane was weirdly deployed in a wing-back role. However, having the German core going deeper in Euro 2020 would have been brilliant for their confidence. A long and draining campaign comes to an end for all Die Roten players at Euro 2020. They will get an ample amount of rest to be ready for the start of the Bundesliga campaign against Borussia Monchengladbach in August at Borussia Park.
