Bayern Munich was in fine form while going forward throughout the league campaign last season. The German Champions were leaking goals at the back, but they were managing to outscore opposition in the Bundesliga.

A similar trend was followed in the Champions League. A stronger defense would have helped the club to go deeper in the competition and have a better chance to defend the title. Nevertheless, the attack does deserve the plaudits for delivering goods in the final third.

The German Champions were one of the best-attacking teams in Europe last season, scoring 99 goals in 34 league games. Robert Lewandowski had a big role to play in the team’s output as he ended up scoring 41 league goals, breaking the record of scoring most goals in a single Bundesliga campaign by Gerd Muller.

Along with Lewandowski, there was a vital contribution from other attacking players. However, Hasan Salihamidzic wants young wingers in the squad to take even more responsibility next season. While talking to Kicker, Salihamidzic admitted that younger forwards need to step up next season and provide ample support for Lewandowski and Thomas Muller.

"“I wish and expect that they improve. And I am convinced that they will succeed. Robert Lewandowski cannot always score 50 goals. Muller cannot always have 32 assists. That’s why the others have to step up.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Kingsley Coman was probably the best wide player for Die Roten throughout the campaign. He has significantly improved his decision-making in the final third. The French international scored important goals and ended the campaign with eight goals and 12 assists across all competitions. Coman should be eyeing at least 15 goals and 15 assists next season.

Meanwhile, Serge Gnabry witnessed a dip in his output after enjoying the best season of his career while winning the treble with Die Roten. Gnabry ended up with ten goals and three assists across all competitions. The German winger needs to get back to his best next season and target 20 goals.

Leroy Sane endured a stop-start debut season in Bavaria. The former Manchester City winger often left much to be desired in the final third with his poor decision-making. Since he was coming back from a serious knee injury, this season was always going to be a transitional phase for him. Sane managed ten goals and nine assists in all competitions. He should look to double those numbers next year.

Douglas Costa hardly had any impact during his loan spell. The German Champions are reportedly looking to add one more winger to the squad this summer. Nevertheless, they have three incredible wide players right now, but they need to up the ante next season and add more goals to their game.
