Bayern Munich has confirmed that Alexander Nubel has completed a two-year loan to Monaco on Sunday. The German Champions also announced the return of Sven Ulreich to the club after one season at Hamburg. Club captain Manuel Neuer had a role to play in this goalkeeping overhaul.
According to Bild, Neuer pressed for the return of Ulreich to the club. Along with goalkeeping coach Toni Tapalovic, Neuer convinced the club to complete the signing of Ulreich after it was decided that Nubel will go out on loan.
This report could have a lot of weightage as Neuer has worked with Ulreich in the past. Both goalkeepers have given glowing references about each other in the public domain, highlighting the good relationship between the duo. From Neuer’s point of view, Ulreich’s arrival will also stop speculation regarding the goalkeeping department at the club.
Arminia Bielefeld’s Stefan Ortega had also emerged as a concrete option to replace Nubel, but the club went with a much more cost-effective option. Ulreich was a free agent after terminating his contract with Hamburg at the end of the season. Meanwhile, Ortega would have commanded a considerable amount of transfer fee.

Ulreich has worked brilliantly during his five-year stay at the club. When Neuer missed an entire campaign due to injury, Ulreich stepped in and delivered several memorable performances. He will always be ready to step up if Neuer is missing out due to injury or suspension.
Meanwhile, a loan move to Monaco is just what Nubel needed at this stage of his career. Niko Kovac has done a fine job at the French club as they return to Champions League next season. The French club is known for nurturing young talents and provide the right conditions for them to fulfill their potential.
In case Nubel fails to get a considerable amount of time, Die Roten could bring him back next summer as they have reportedly inserted a break clause in the loan deal. Overall, the outcome of these two transfers will be positive for Bayern in the long run. Nubel’s loan spell at Monaco could dictate his long-term future in Bavaria.
After solving the conundrum in the goalkeeping department, Rekordmeister will look at other areas to strengthen in the coming week. The German Champions are reportedly looking for a right-back and winger in this window. Some reports have also suggested that the midfield department could be improved in summer.
