Bayern Munich make right decision regarding Alexander Nubel
Bayern Munich is close to sorting the goalkeeping conundrum for next season. There was never an ounce of doubt regarding Manuel Neuer as number one for the new campaign. However, the future of his deputy, Alexander Nubel, was up in the air. The latest reports suggest that the young goalkeeper has secured playing time for next season.
According to Sport1 and RMC, Monaco has reached an agreement with Die Roten to take Nubel on loan for two seasons. The German goalkeeper is already in France to undergo medical to complete the final details of the transfer.
Kicker has revealed that Rekordmeister has an option to terminate the loan deal after one season. Along with Monaco, there was also interest from Lille and Marseille in the 24-year-old shot-stopper. It was previously reported that Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig were also keen on Nubel.
Die Roten has made the right decision to loan Nubel to Monaco. The German goalkeeper has been warming the bench for the last 12 months since arriving from Schalke on a free transfer last summer. He might have definitely learned a lot of things by training with Neuer. However, he needs consistent playing time to improve and eventually succeed Neuer in Bavaria.

Former Bayern manager Niko Kovac has been doing a fine job at Monaco. Nubel will get to play in Europe since Monaco finished higher in Ligue 1 last season. In a young team and competitive league, Nubel can take the next step in his development during the next two years. In case he is struggling to get game time, Die Roten can terminate the loan deal and sort another move for him.
It remains to be seen whether Monaco will be covering Nubel’s wages which are reportedly close to 5 million/year. If Die Roten manages to get those wages off the bill in this move, then they will have room for making other signings this summer. This loan deal definitely ticks most of the boxes for all parties.
Sven Ulreich set to replace Nubel at Bayern Munich
Sport1 is reporting that Sven Ulreich is set to return to Die Roten for replacing Nubel in the squad. The experienced German goalkeeper had terminated his contract with Hamburg at the start of June. Arminia Bielefeld’s Stefan Ortega was reportedly a target, but it does look like the German Champions have settled to bring back Ulreich.
Ulreich will not command a transfer fee, so his arrival is unlikely to affect the budget. Die Roten has done well to sort the uncertainty surrounding the goalkeeping department before the pre-season. In the long run, the decision to send Nubel on loan to Monaco could turn out to be decisive.
