Due to Euro 2020, Bayern Munich is yet to take significant steps in the transfer window. However, the goalkeeping department could be addressed soon. The latest update from Germany suggests that Die Roten has intensified efforts to sign a replacement for Alexander Nubel.
According to Kicker, Nubel is inching towards sealing a loan move away from the club. Lille and Monaco are the destinations for the German goalkeeper. Both clubs are likely to play in the Champions League despite Monaco needing to play a qualifier to seal their place in the competition.
As per this report, Die Roten has made contact with Arminia Bielefeld’s Stefan Ortega to replace Nubel. Since Nubel will be going out on loan for two years, a new number two will be needed. Kicker has confirmed that Ortega has a release clause worth €5 million. The 28-year-old goalkeeper has also openly spoken about Die Roten’s interest during last season.
Ortega has enjoyed a good spell at Bielefeld. He narrowly missed out on the German squad as DFB has kept him on standby in case one of the three goalkeepers suffer injury before the tournament. The presence of a release clause makes this deal more appealing for Die Roten as they are likely to receive a sizeable loan fee for Nubel.

Kicker also confirmed that Die Roten is yet to make contact with Sven Ulreich. The German Champions are favouring a move for Ortega over Ulreich. At the end of last week, few German reports linked Ulreich with a return to Bavaria. The German goalkeeper had terminated his contract at Hamburger SV to become a free agent.
Nubel struggled for playing time last season, so it is necessary to arrange a loan spell for him. Since Manuel Neuer is unlikely to compromise few games to give playing time to Nubel, staying in Bavaria for one more season will be a bad move for the young German goalkeeper. Rekordmeister needs to find the right club to make sure Nubel continues his development.
The options in Germany are less for Nubel. Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig have been linked with Nubel in the past, but both destinations look complicated right now. Dortmund has already added a good goalkeeper by signing Gregor Kobel from VfB Stuttgart.
Ortega and Ulriech are two good options to replace Nubel in the short term at Die Roten. Both of them have the quality and experience to be an able backup to Neuer. The next few weeks are likely to be decisive for the goalkeeping department at Rekordmeister.
