Bayern Munich Frauen concludes their 2020/21 domestic season against Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday. A Frauen-Bundesliga title will be on the line when Bayern takes the pitch against Frankfurt.

They currently hold a two-point advantage over Wolfsburg in the table and need at least a draw to be able to claim the league title if Wolfsburg wins their fixture against Werder Bremen. Here are three things to watch for ahead of Sunday’s match.

One match away from the title

While victory on Sunday would ensure the title is won, all three points against Frankfurt are not absolutely necessary as a draw would likely get the job as well. Bayern’s impressive +69 goal differential is far greater than Wolfsburg’s +46 differential. Goal differential would be the tiebreaker if Wolfsburg and Bayern finish level on points and Bayern clearly has the advantage here.

A loss for Bayern would be devastating as a Wolfsburg victory will see them take over first place on the final matchday. Having defeated Frankfurt by just one goal when the clubs last met in December, this match could be another closely contested 90 minutes.

Bayern certainly will need to ensure they continue to display their dominant defensive ability on Sunday. They have conceded just nine goals in the Frauen-Bundesliga and lead the league in clean sheets. If they can register another clean sheet on Sunday, it will be the most important shutout of the season.

More from Bayern Strikes

Will Sydney Lohmann score the winner again?

Lohmann scored the match-winning goal against Frankfurt in December. She has scored multiple massive goals for Bayern this season including a goal against Wolfsburg on Matchday 20 which earned Die Roten a point.

On Sunday, she could add another important goal to her already impactful campaign for Bayern. With ten league goals scored, Lohmann will certainly be a player to watch for against Frankfurt.

Battle of the top scorers

Two of the Frauen-Bundesliga top scorers will feature in this match. Frankfurt’s Laura Freigang is currently second in the league in goals scored and Bayern’s Lea Schuller is in third place. Freigang has produced 16 goals in 21 appearances with five goals coming in her last five appearances. Schuller is close behind with 14 goals in 19 appearances. Just like Freigang, Schuller has scored five goals in her last five appearances.

Both players are in terrific form entering this match and will have one last opportunity to add to their goal totals. Freigang will likely be the player who will have the more difficult time finding the back of the net. As previously mentioned, Bayern has allowed just nine league goals and registered 15 clean sheets. Freigang will offer one final test for Bayern’s backline and they cannot afford to let a player of her caliber have too many scoring chances or they could be in trouble.
