In the last decade or so, Bayern Munich has been very unfortunate with injuries at the business end of the season. The recently concluded 2020/21 campaign was not any different. Rekordmeister had multiple players out due to injury during the quarter-final of the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain.

Robert Lewandowski was obviously the biggest miss for Rekordmeister as he missed both legs. In his absence, Die Roten narrowly missed out on a place in the semi-final as PSG qualified on away goals. The Polish striker would have made a big impact in both legs.

Apart from Lewandowski, Leon Goretzka and Niklas Sule also had a difficult end to the season due to fitness reasons. Sule has been out of action for a majority of games at the end of the Bundesliga campaign due to injuries.

Sule trained few days extra at Sabner Strasse after the end of the season to regain fitness ahead of Euro 2020. While speaking to DFB this week, Sule revealed injury issues he faced throughout the second half of the season. The German defender believes that he is close to achieving complete fitness.

"“I’ve worked really hard and I used the final two quarantine matchdays wisely with Bayern. I’ve had small setbacks regarding my muscles in the last two, three months. I wouldn’t say that I’m at 100% yet, but I’m on the right path to be fully fit for the France game.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Sule was put on a special training regime last week, but he seems to have achieved the required fitness levels to start for Germany against Denmark tonight. The 26-year-old defender has been partnered with Matthias Ginter and Mats Hummels in a back three system implemented by Joachim Low.

It has been a stop-start season for Sule at the club level. Hansi Flick has used him in central defense and right-back position, but he has not been an undisputed starter in both positions. Reports in Germany have suggested that Die Roten is not convinced about keeping Sule at the club by offering him a new deal.

Rekordmeister will have to make a decision regarding Sule this summer. The German defender has only one year left on his current deal. He will be getting more game time next season due to the departures of Jerome Boateng and David Alaba. However, allowing him to enter the final 12 months of the contract will not be productive for the club. Chelsea has been credited with an interest in the German defender.

Meanwhile, Leon Goretzka has started training on the pitch at the German camp. The dynamic midfielder has been out of action for few weeks, but he remains in contention for the first game against France at Euro 2020. Goretzka was pictured with Toni Kroos in individual training sessions on Wednesday.
