Bayern Munich has already added two defenders to the squad this summer. However, the German Champions are reportedly still looking to add a right-back to the squad. Die Roten is reportedly looking at an old target to address this position.
According to Sport in Spain, Bayern tried to convince Barcelona full-back Sergino Dest to move to Bavaria. Arsenal and Juventus are other European clubs that tried to convince Dest to leave Catalonia. However, Dest is convinced about the project at Barcelona, so he wants to stay put.
Die Roten first tried to sign Dest in January last year. They reportedly had a bid rejected by Ajax, while Dest was also spotted at Allianz Arena during one of the games. The young full-back confirmed Bayern’s interest.
After failing to complete a transfer in January, Rekordmeister went again for Dest in the summer. However, they failed to close the deal quickly, and Barcelona managed to complete the signing. It was a massive blow for the German Champions since Dest was the first-choice target to improve options in the right-back position.

Considering Dest’s promising performances during his debut season in Spain, Die Roten was right about the quality of the player. Since Barcelona is struggling to balance books, Rekordmeister could have completed a move this year. However, the youngster looks determined to succeed in Spain.
Die Roten eventually signed a right-back last summer. They were scrambling for signings in the final week of the transfer window. The German club managed to bring competition for Benjamin Pavard by signing Bouna Sarr from Marseille. However, the 29-year-old defender couldn’t live up to the expectations in the first season.
Sarr has struggled for fitness and game time in his debut season with Die Roten. The reports in Germany have suggested that Rekordmeister is open to listening to offers for the French defender. A new right-back will definitely end Sarr’s time at the club. Benjamin Pavard had an inconsistent second season in Bavaria, but he remains the only reliable right-back in the current squad.
Apart from right-back, the German Champions may invest in the midfield and attack. A central midfielder to provide adequate cover for Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka. Meanwhile, the departure of Douglas Costa does opens up space for a winger in the squad. The German club is not going to make big transfers, but filling these voids in the squad is likely to be on the agenda.
