Bayern Munich is looking for a midfielder in the summer transfer window. The German champions have been linked with numerous midfielders in the past few months. However, the most bizarre link came on Saturday.

According to AS, Sergio Busquets could join Bayern in the coming days. Busquets is part of the group of senior players Barcelona is looking to listen to offers in this window. The Spanish midfielder currently has two years left on his contract at Barcelona.

Sergio Busquets was reportedly told by Barcelona to take a wage cut earlier this month due to the poor finances of the club. Along with Busquets, other senior players may have to take a pay cut. However, AS believes that Joan Laporta is eager to offload some of the senior players.

The 32-year-old midfielder is currently with the Spanish squad. It is unlikely that a move will take before Euro 2020. Busquets has spent his entire career at Barcelona until now. After coming through the club’s famed academy La Masia, Busquets has established himself in one of the best midfielders of his generation.

More from Bayern Strikes

Despite Busquets’ quality, this transfer doesn’t make sense for Bayern. The Spaniard has been on a steady decline in the last few seasons. Moreover, Die Roten will not be able to improve the midfield department by adding an older player to the squad in the summer.

From a financial perspective, signing Busquets will be an even bigger blunder for Die Roten. He is one of the top earners in Barcelona. The Spaniard is likely to command similar wages if he decides to leave his boyhood club for Bavaria. Rekordmeister has consistently insisted that they are eager to maintain balance in the wage structure, so handing an expensive contract to Busquets will completely go against this philosophy.

Since the noise is coming from Spain, this rumour can be taken with a pinch of salt. The German Champions should be looking at younger midfield players to build a squad for the present and future. Eduardo Camavinga has been heavily linked with Die Roten, but PSG is also reportedly in the mix for the talented midfielder.

Along with buying a new midfielder, Rekordmeister needs to find new clubs for Adrian Fein and Mickael Cuisance. The two young midfielders failed to impress during their loan spells last season. They are definitely returning to Bavaria in the summer. Since they are unlikely to get playing time for Cuisance and Fein in Bavaria, Die Roten should look to raise some funds for other transfers by listening offers for both players.
