Jerome Boateng has been posting a flurry of photos from his successful time at Bayern Munich. The German defender will be leaving the club at the end of June when he officially becomes a free agent. Boateng played his last game for Die Roten during 5-2 win against Augsburg last weekend.
Boateng is likely to attract a lot of interest after enjoying good form over the last 18 months. Jose Mourinho has been trying to sign Boateng at two different clubs. The Portuguese manager may try third time this summer. According to Gazetta Dello Sport in Italy, Mourinho is interested in bringing Boateng to AS Roma.
Mourinho wanted Boateng during his last season at Manchester United. The Red Devils had made a loan enquiry for the German defender, but he was reportedly not keen on returning to England. Tottenham Hotspurs were also linked with Boateng, but Mourinho’s departure in April has probably put an end to that possible transfer.
Roma had a difficult season in Serie A as they finished seventh in Serie A. The Italian club will have to go through playoffs to play in the UEFA Conference league next season. Boateng will be a quality addition for the team that has struggled defensively entire campaign.

However, the German defender has completely different ideas for his next destination. According to Spox, Boateng wants to stay in Europe and play at the highest level. This report insists that Boateng wants to move to a big club that will be playing in the Champions League. Roma falls short of meeting Boateng’s ambitions for next season.
From a financial point of view, a move to Roma could benefit Boateng. The tax laws in Italy are favourable for footballers. Since this is likely to be Boateng’s last big deal of his career, he will be looking for a good payday at his next club. In the past, he has been heavily linked with Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain, but those clubs are currently stacked in central defense.
It remains to be seen whether Boateng will listen to other Bundesliga clubs that will be playing in the Champions League. The German defender was eager to stay in Bavaria, but the club decided to have younger defenders in the squad from next season.
While there is very little clarity about Boateng’s next club, his former teammate David Alaba is close to completing a move to Real Madrid. Javi Martinez is also leaving the club on a free transfer, but his next club is not yet revealed.
