Bayern Munich has started planning for next season. The German champions need to sort out the immediate future of few players before looking for further reinforcement. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is one of the older players that will definitely play in Bavarian colours next season.
Choupo-Moting had signed a one-year deal after signing as a free agent at the end of last summer transfer window. Reports in Germany have hinted that the club will keep him for next season. The latest update from Germany suggests that veteran striker is going to be rewarded with a longer deal.
According to AZ, Choupo-Moting is set to sign two-year-long deal at Bayern. The new contract will mean that the Cameroon striker will stay in Munich until 2023. It is a significant deal for a player that will be used as cover for Robert Lewandowski.
Choupo-Moting made 32 appearances across all competitions. However, 19 out of 32 appearances were from the bench. The 32-year-old striker scored nine goals in limited opportunities, making him a handy option from the bench.

Lewandowski is not going to get younger despite showing tremendous consistency in the last three seasons. The Polish striker will have to manage his playing time in the next two years, so Choupo-Moting will have a decent role to play in the squad. However, Rekordmeister will have to make sure that they start the search for a long-term replacement for Lewandowski.
Choupo-Moting’s ability to play on the left flank also makes him a very versatile forward. He may not operate as a traditional wide player, but he can do a job on the flank in specific situations. Since Julian Nagelsmann often adapts systems depending on the opposition, having a versatile and hard-working player like Choupo-Moting will be handy for Die Roten.
Choupo-Moting’s contribution during the two games against PSG was immense this season. Even though Die Roten was knocked out on away goals, Choupo-Moting managed to put in a shift when Lewandowski was on the sidelines due to injury. He scored two goals against his former club to give Rekordmeister a chance to qualify for the next round.
The contract talks with Choupo-Moting is likely to be straightforward and easier to conclude for Die Roten. They do face a challenge to agree terms with Kingsley Coman after he appointed Pini Zahavi as one of his representatives. The German Champions also need to tie down Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka to long-term contracts.
