The last two Bundesliga games of the season are going to be special for Bayern Munich. The club has already secured the title, but these games have importance since it will be farewell for few players and coach Hansi Flick. The German manager is set to part ways with the club at the end of the season.

Flick made his intentions clear to leave the position of head coach in April. Die Roten initially insisted that talks will be held to find a solution but eventually accepted Flick’s wish after the game against Mainz in April.

The German manager was relieved from his contract instead of demanding compensation for him from interested parties. Flick is expected to succeed Joachim Low at the German National Team after Euros. DFB has reportedly started negotiations with Flick.

Before accepting Flick’s wish, Die Roten has also sorted his replacement. They are set to pay a world-record fee to RB Leipzig for Julian Nagelsmann. The young German manager will be taking over the team in the summer. While speaking to AZ, former Bayern manager Ottmar Hitzfeld praised the club for finding the right replacement for Flick.

"“Julian Nagelsmann is incredibly mature for his age. He’s made great progress and was very successful at Hoffenheim & Leipzig. Bayern couldn’t have had a better replacement for Hansi Flick. Nagelsmann will also be successful at Bayern.”"

Hitzfeld also admitted that it was the right time for Flick to move on from this role after winning every possible trophy during the last two seasons. Flick initially moved to Bavaria in 2019 as assistant coach of Niko Kovac.

After the departure of Kovac, Flick was given the role of caretaker manager. Impressive and consistent results saw him go from caretaker role to permanent head coach in the space of five months. The German manager helped the team to win all trophies in his first season. Die Roten become the second club in Europe to win sextuple under the coaching of Flick.

Along with winning numerous trophies, Flick also managed to get the best out of senior players that were on the verge of leaving the club. Thomas Muller and Jerome Boateng experienced an upturn in form during the treble-winning campaign. Meanwhile, Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala have also firmly established themselves in the first team under Flick.

Nagelsmann has a tough act to follow, but he has delivered an exciting style of football and good results at Leipzig and Hoffenheim. He has been on the club’s radar for a long time, so tying him down to a long-term deal will surely embark on a new era in Munich.
