Bayern Munich has not reached the heights of last season, but they did manage to defend the Bundesliga title by beating Borussia Monchengladbach last weekend. It was the first Bundesliga title for seven players that arrived last summer. Leroy Sane was one of these players that earned the first German title in their career.

Sane was the prime transfer target for Die Roten during the summer transfer window in 2019. The German club was in advanced negotiations with Manchester City, but a serious injury to Sane during the Community Shield game against Liverpool.

After 12 months, Die Roten eventually clinched the signing of Sane for a much lower fee. The debut season for Sane in Bavaria has been a mixed bag. At times, he has looked unplayable, but sometimes his decision-making in the final third has been frustrating.

While talking to Bundesliga.com this week, Sane was thrilled about lifting the first league title with Die Roten. The German international also revealed problems he faced during the last two years with recovery from this injury.

"“It took me a while to get used to everything new here, but overall, I’m pleased that I could stay healthy and I’m happy that we won a title. In general, I’m happy because I had a bad injury before last season and because of Corona, it was difficult to come back and get my rhythm back and confidence on the pitch. I just tried to get as much as I could in training.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Sane has not been given a place in the starting XI straight away at Die Roten this season. Despite being a start-stop season for the young winger, Sane has managed nine goals and nine assists this year. With a good amount of playing time under his belt this year, Sane is more than likely to explode next season. A good outing with Germany at Euros will further improve his confidence. There will be proper pre-season training this season, so the Bavarian faithful are likely to see a much more improved Sane next season.

Along with these factors, the arrival of Julian Nagelsmann will also help Sane. The young German manager has managed to get the most out of attacking players during his stints at Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig. Sane could well become a much better player under him as he has shown over the last few seasons.

Joachim Low is also completely sold on the 25-year-old winger after not selecting him for World Cup in 2018. He is going to have a big role to play at Euros 2020 that is set to begin from next season. The immediate target for Sane will be to end the season strongly with Die Roten by getting at least one goal and one assist during the last two league games to get into double digits for the season in the Bundesliga.
