Bayern Munich: Monaco interested in signing Jerome Boateng
The last two Bundesliga games for Bayern Munich will be worth watching only due to two reasons. Robert Lewandowski achieving the record of scoring more than 40 goals in one league campaign, while farewell games for Hansi Flick, Jerome Boateng, David Alaba, and Javi Martinez is the other reason.
Boateng has announced retirement from international football, so he will have a lot of time to decide about the next step in his career. The German defender was eager to stay in Bavaria, but the club decided against handing a new contract.
The veteran defender is currently attracting interest from Ligue 1. According to France Football, Niko Kovac wants to reunite with Boateng at Monaco. The Croatian manager wants to add experience to the squad as they return to the Champions League next season.
Boateng will be a solid signing for Monaco. The German defender will bring a lot of quality and experience to the squad. In the last 18 months, Boateng has enjoyed a resurgence in Bavaria after a couple of poor seasons.

It will be interesting to see whether Boateng will be eager to work with Kovac once again. Boateng had fallen down the pecking order in Kovac’s last season at Die Roten. It looked certain that Boateng’s time at the club was coming to an end. However, the departure of Kovac opened up more opportunities for Boateng in the first team.
Previously, Jerome Boateng has been linked with a move to Ligue 1 in 2018 when he was looking to leave Die Roten. Thomas Tuchel reportedly wanted him at Paris Saint-Germain, but the two clubs couldn’t reach an agreement for the transfer to happen. Manchester United also tried to sign him on loan, but Boateng had no plans to move back to England.
Juventus came very close to signing the German defender in 2019, but the interest came at the very end of the window, and the transfer was not completed. Since the tough initial few months of the 2019/20 season, Boateng has been happy to stay in Bavaria. However, the club is looking to build a squad for the future with more young players in the defense.
Jerome Boateng can still contribute at the top level in Europe. Since the transfer market is going to be difficult due to pandemic, he could be in demand for many clubs in the summer. Monaco would be a good destination and challenge for him, but it is still early doors for the transfer to materialize.
