Robert Lewandowski continues to score goals in droves for Bayern Munich. The star striker recorded yet another hat-trick in the Bundesliga in Bayern’s emphatic 6-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday. He scored early and often with a goal coming in the second minute followed by a splendid strike in the 34th minute and a second-half penalty kick conversion.

His three-goal performance moves him closer to Gerd Muller’s 40 goal single-season scoring record in the German top flight. With 39 goals scored in 27 appearances, the Poland international needs just two more goals to set a new record. Here’s a look at three impressive stats from Lewandowski’s performance against Mönchengladbach.

Hat tricks galore

Lewandowski recorded three goals or more in a single match for the fifth time this season in the Bundesliga. This is the highest number of hat-tricks he’s produced in a single campaign in his career in the German top flight. These performances have certainly helped alleviate his absence for most of April when he missed four fixtures due to injury.

It’s incredible to think that he is on the verge of breaking Muller’s record despite not being able to make 30 or more appearances this season in the Bundesliga. Muller played in 34 fixtures when he set his 40 goal mark in the 1971/72 season and had six performances of three goals or more.

The quickest goal of his Bundesliga career

According to OptaFranz, of all the goals Lewandowski has scored in the Bundesliga, his second-minute goal against Mönchengladbach was the quickest goal he’s scored from kick-off. This early goal has also helped contribute to another career-best he’s set this season, which is 20 first-half goals in a Bundesliga season. His previous best was from last season when he netted 17 first-half goals. The 32-year-old is setting career bests left and right in the 2020/21 season.

Over 200 goals for Bayern in the Bundesliga

The three goals against Mönchengladbach put Lewandowski past the 200 goal mark in the Bundesliga for Bayern. He has now scored 201 league goals in 217 appearances for Die Roten. According to Transfermarkt, Lewandowski has now scored 292 goals in 327 appearances in all competitions.

Although he’s unlikely to catch Muller in all-time goals for the club, he has scored 0.89 goals per match which is very close to Muller’s 0.90 goals per match. Next season, Lewandowski could not only surpass 300 goals for the club but he possibly can overtake Muller’s goals per match record.
