After beating Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday, Bayern Munich has taken a massive step towards retaining the Bundesliga title. They can confirm the title win by beating Mainz on Saturday since they have a lead of 11 points at the top with four games left in the league.

Ahead of the game against Mainz, Rekordmeister has received a big boost as Robert Lewandowski started training with the first team. The Polish striker was spotted with his teammates at Sabner Strasse on Wednesday.

Lewandowski has been out of action since the end of March. He suffered a serious injury while playing for Poland. Die Roten severely missed him during the two legs of quarter-final clash against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. The German Champions were eventually knocked out of the competition on away goals.

Along with winning the Bundesliga title, Lewandowski will be targeting Gerd Muller’s record of scoring most goals in a single season. The Poland international is currently on 35 goals this season. He needs to score five goals in four games to match Muller’s record.

Meanwhile, Corentin Tolisso has also started training on the pitch. The French midfielder has been out of action since February. He had suffered a serious injury during a training session at Sabner Strasse. Returning before the end of the season will be a big boost for Tolisso’s chances of making it to the French squad for Euros in the summer.

Serge Gnabry was also back in training on Wednesday. The German winger has been isolating during the last two weeks after testing positive for coronavirus a day before the first leg of the Champions League clash against PSG. It remains to be seen whether Gnabry is completely fit to play against Mainz.

There has been no update on Douglas Costa. The Brazilian winger has been out for more than four to five weeks. It has been a disappointing return to Bavaria for Costa. He has barely started for Rekordmeister this season, and his performances have largely been poor this season.

Leon Goretzka made his return from a muscle injury on Tuesday. The German midfielder came on late in the game against Bayer Leverkusen. Die Roten’s season could come to an end this weekend due to the huge lead at the top of the table. Flick is expected to part ways with the club in the summer, so he will be hoping to have a stronger end to his remarkable tenure in Bavaria.
