A disappointing week in Europe for Bayern Munich ended with a domestic win against Wolfsburg on Saturday. It was a hard-fought win as Wolfsburg gave their all to create problems for Die Roten’s defense. However, the biggest problem for the club arrived after the game.
In his post-match interview/press conference, Hansi Flick confirmed that he will not be managing Die Roten next season. The German manager wishes to break his contract and leave the club in the summer. Flick didn’t reveal what his next destination will be, but it is widely reported that he will be managing the German National team.
There has been constant speculation surrounding the future of Flick ever since Joachim Low announced that he would be leaving the German national team after Euros in the summer. Moreover, reports in Germany have suggested that Flick and Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidzic were not on the same page regarding squad planning.
The sudden announcement of Jerome Boateng’s departure just before a crucial game against Paris Saint-German pointed towards Flick’s departure. Boateng has been one of the key players for Flick during his time at the club.
"“I want to terminate my contract this summer, that is a fact. It was important to me that the team finds out about it from me personally. I already told the people in charge after our Champions League elimination during the week”"

Die Roten will now face a very stiff challenge to replace Flick. In 18 months, Flick has managed to achieve a sextuple with the squad, an achievement that has never been emulated by a manager in Bavaria. Moreover, Rekordmeister played some fantastic football while winning every possible trophy last season.
Immediately after getting the role of the first-team coach in November 2019, Flick got players on his side and started churning out results. His style of man-management was lauded by several players, including those who were not getting consistent playing time. Along with maintaining squad harmony, Flick got the best out of players that were on the verge of leaving the club or found themselves on the fringes of the squad.
Die Roten will need all these boxes to be ticked in their successor for Hansi Flick. Moreover, they will have to find an amicable solution for recruitment plans that align with the philosophy of the manager. Flick’s departure is going to be a big loss for Die Roten since he took the club to the pinnacle of European football after seven years.
RB Leipzig’s Julien Nagelsmann is likely to be the frontrunner to succeed Hansi Flick in the summer. He had been heavily linked to this position since his time at Hoffenheim a few years ago. However, Die Roten will have to pay a big compensation to get him from Leipzig. Nevertheless, find a good to decent replacement for Flick is going to be a big challenge for the club.
